About the Trek

Like the other high altitude treks in Sikkim, the GoechalaKasturi trek is all about the towering mountains and snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas. Originating form Yuksom, this astounding trek can be completed in a period of 10 days with a rest and acclimatisation day in Dzongri.

Almost similar to other Goechala treks, this one takes the trekkers to some of the places that are not covered in other treks related to the Goechala Pass. Also known as the ‘Round Trek’ or ‘Orar Trek’, it takes continues exactly on the other side of the Singalila Range and continues towards Lampokhari and Kasturi on the 7th and 8th day. Also, as it the regions covered in this high altitude trek in Sikkim, it offers the trekkers, the most amazing and pristine views.

Itinerary

You will be beginning the day with an amazing trek through the Rathong Valley and its semi tropical forests. After you cross these forests, a steep climb will take you to a magnificent Tibetan village at 3050 meter above the sea level called Tshoka. Arriving in the village, you can sight the stunning Mt. Pandim and other Himalayan peaks. You will be staying in a trekking hut or camp in Tshoka.

The first phase of today’s trek will take you through exhilarating zigzag terrains, scenic rhododendron forests and will reach Phedang. Here onwards, the terrains will become clear and you can witness different species of flowers, local villagers and their yaks grazing on the field. The Dzongri camp is situated around 300m from here; overnight in the camp.

Today will be for taking rest and getting acclimatised to the higher altitudes. During the day, you can also take a short hike to Dzongrila and explore the surroundings.

Beginning with the trek, you will be trekking along the Prek River. Here onwards, the trek will pass through the scenic valleys and meadows, get amazing views of Kanchendzonga Peak and Mt. Pandim, and will finally reach the Thangshing campsite; overnight stay in the camp.

Today’s trek will be comparatively shorter and will take you through the western ridge of Mt. Pandim, Samiti Lake and a glacier. Crossing the lake, you will witness the valley ringed with colourful prayer flags. Trekking further, you will finally reach the overnight campsite in Lamune.

The trek for the day will begin very early in the morning; around 2.00-3.00a.m. After the sun arises, clouds and fogs might hinder you vision while trekking. The trek will pass through the Goechala Pass, from where you will get to witness amazing views of the Kanchendzonga and Talung Glacier. Crossing the pass, you will have to trek some further to reach the campsite in Thangsing.

With today’s trek from Thangsing to Lampokhari, you will get closer to Kasturi. The trek will be pleasant and will take you through the exhilarating terrains and beautiful valleys as well.

Starting early in the morning from the Lampokhari campsite, a 6-7 hours trek will get you to Kasturi. The overall trek will be downhill and steep descend along the trek will make it a bit challenging for you. However, as the views that you will get to enjoy from Kasturi will make you forget the challenges along the way.

After enjoying the amazing views and the gorgeous surroundings of Kasturi, today, you will be descending further to Labdang. The entire trek can be completed within around 6-7 hours.

The trek from Labdang to Tashiding will be the last hike of this entire trekking expedition and can be completed with 4-5 hours of descending trek. Arriving in Tahsiding, you will be finally driven to Yuksam. Your arrival in Yuksam will be the final call of this exhilarating trek.
