Meghalaya is a favourite tourist destination for those who find solace in nature. The expansive highlands, lush woodlands, serene lakes and panoramic views creates a tranquil backdrop for a laid-back vacation with Meghalaya holiday packages.
As a hilly paradise, Meghalaya, brims with remarkable experiences, ranging from hiking to Laitlum Canyons to exploring the sacred forest of Mawphlang. Wander through Shillong’s colourful markets and travel back in history by visiting Don Bosco museum. Explore the vibrant music scene and cafe culture in Meghalaya’s capital. On Shillong’s city tour, discover the colonial influences on the city’s architecture and layout, still visible to this day.
Wonderful travel experiences are in store for you on a Meghalaya tour. Enjoy a boat ride/kayaking in the crystal-clear waters of Dawki’s Umngot River. Explore the streets of Mawlynnong, hailed amongst the cleanest villages in Asia. Witness the geological marvel of Meghalaya’s limestone cave (Awrah Cave), and watch the awe-inspiring Nohkalikai Falls (the tallest plunge in India). Many more interesting activities and attractions are carefully planned in our Meghalaya tour packages to deliver a wholesome experience.
Experiences beyond sightseeing such as boating, trekking, and cultural festivals are also a part of Meghalaya tour packages. On a Meghalaya trip, learn about the customs of Khasi, Jainta, and Garo tribes, and their ways of coexistence with nature. Attend local festivals such as Wangala Festival, Nongkrem Dance Festival, for an immersive cultural experience. Further, if you plan a Meghalaya trip in November, make sure to attend the popular Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival, headlined by international musicians.
With Meghalaya tour packages, leave the worries of logistics behind and catch wonderful sights of Meghalaya and its culture. Our Meghalaya packages are tailor-made for diverse tourist groups such as families, couples, adventurers, cultural enthusiasts, and solo travellers. Whether you want a 3 days Shillong escape or a week-long Meghalaya tour package, we have the trip planned for you.
Meghalaya earns its reputation honestly. The living root bridges are unlike anything else in India, Dawki’s Umngot River genuinely looks like glass on a clear December morning, and the drive from Shillong to Cherrapunji through cloud-draped khasi hills is one of the most beautiful roads in the Northeast. But the state rewards guests who go a step further than the photograph.
The famous Double Decker Root Bridge near Nongriat is reached by descending approximately 3,500 steps from the village of Tyrna, then climbing back up. Round trip takes three to five hours depending on pace. It is genuinely beautiful, but it is not a casual walk, and guests who are not prepared for it tend to rush the descent and regret the climb. Guides from Nongriat village are worth hiring, both for safety on the slippery stone steps and because they can show smaller, lesser-visited bridges in the same valley that most itineraries miss entirely.
The root bridges are grown, not built. Local Khasi communities trained the aerial roots of Ficus elastica trees across bamboo and wood scaffolding over fifteen to twenty-five years. Some of the older bridges in the Cherrapunji and Mawlynnong areas are over two centuries old. The engineering is entirely biological, and the bridges strengthen as the root system matures. No other community in the world has practised this on this scale.
Mawphlang Sacred Forest, around 28 km from Shillong, is not a nature reserve in the conventional sense. It is a sacred grove preserved for over 800 years by Khasi customary law: no leaf, stone, or branch may be removed, and no hunting or clearing is permitted under any circumstance. The Khasi believe the forest is protected by the deity Labasa, and any violation, even unintentional, is considered to bring misfortune.
Entering the forest without a local Khasi guide is not permitted and, practically speaking, would strip the visit of most of its meaning. A good guide explains the medicinal uses of the plants, the clan histories connected to specific trees, and the social structure of the Khasi community, which is matrilineal: property and clan names pass through the mother, the youngest daughter inherits the family home, and men move into their wife’s household after marriage. These are not incidental facts. They are visible in how the villages around Mawphlang are organised.
Most tour operators advise against visiting Meghalaya between June and September. The orthodox advice is not wrong, but it is incomplete. The waterfalls, including Nohkalikai (India’s tallest plunge waterfall at 340 metres) and Seven Sisters Falls near Cherrapunji, are at full thundering volume only during and just after monsoon. The hills are deeply green. The mist arrives and lifts unpredictably, turning ordinary viewpoints into something atmospheric. Cherrapunji, locally called Sohra, earned its reputation as one of the wettest places on Earth for a reason, and the rain is the reason the landscape looks the way it does.
The practical trade-off is real: some roads become difficult, the Dawki river is too high and murky for the famous boat rides, and outdoor treks require proper rain gear. But for travellers who do not mind the rain, a June or July trip to Meghalaya offers a different, equally valid experience with significantly fewer crowds.
Choosing the right Meghalaya itinerary depends on what kind of experience you are after, which season suits your schedule, and how much ground you want to cover. Our travel experts at eSikkim Tourism can build a custom Meghalaya tour package around your preferences, whether that is a short four-day focus on Shillong and Cherrapunji or a deeper week-long itinerary that takes in the root bridges, Mawphlang, and Dawki. Get in touch with us and we will design it for you.

As cliche as it may sound, but Meghalaya is not just a destination, it’s a feeling! eSikkim Tourism delivered an amazing package. I've seen clear water in photographs. I've never believed it until Dawki. The Umngot River is so transparent you'd swear the boats were floating on glass.
Our guide took us there on Day 5 and I genuinely stood there for twenty minutes just staring. But nothing prepared us for the Double-Decker Root Bridge in Nongriat. Watching a living bridge, deep in a jungle and the scent of rain, was an amazing experience.
Our guide led us through the trek with quiet confidence, narrating the Khasi legends woven into the landscape. The Meghalaya trip felt less like tourism and more like discovery. I would love to go there again!

We'd been putting off a family holiday for two years and finally planned it with eSikkimTourism. Shillong is just gorgeous. Umiam Lake on the way set the tone perfectly, and the kids were absolutely fascinated by Elephant Falls (three levels of waterfalls, one after another!).
Ward's Lake in the city was calm and lovely, and Don Bosco Museum was unexpectedly brilliant. So much Meghalayan culture packed into one place. Laitlum Canyons left all of us speechless. Our guide Myrthong was warm, patient, and brilliant with the children and she had stories for every single stop.
eSikkim Tourism handled everything seamlessly. No surprise costs, no itinerary confusion. Just a happy family holiday with full memories and hearts.

Planned an adventure trip to Meghalaya with eSikkim Tourism. The trek to Nongriat nearly drove me to exhaustion, but I would do it all over again. 12 kilometres through dense jungle, steep stone steps, river crossings and at the end of it, the Double-Decker Root Bridge standing there like something out of a fantasy novel.
Then Nohkalikai falls cascading from 340 metres and slamming into a pool of impossible green. The scale of it physically shook me.Our guide set a perfect pace, knew every root and rock on that trail, and kept our energy up the whole way. eSikkim planned the tough days smartly, enough recovery time built in, good stays, solid meals.
Wei-Sawdong Falls and Arwah Caves were brilliant warm-ups for what came next. This Meghalaya package is built for people who want to earn their views. Highly recommended!

Meghalaya has a way of making you go quiet where you realise you haven't checked your phone in hours! Laitlum Canyons does that. Standing at the edge, looking at valleys folded into valleys, clouds sitting below your feet, it offers serenity like no other. Sohra delivered waterfall after waterfall: Wah Kaba, Dain Thlen, Wei-Sawdong and each one was different in character and scale.
The local guide understood that solo travel needs space, not commentary. He spoke when it was needed and let the landscape speak otherwise. Mawkdok Valley View Point was a perfect, unhurried final frame. eSikkim Tourism gave me a trip that moved at the right speed, exactly what I was hoping for. A big thanks to their team!

eSikkim Tourism planned our group trip to Meghalaya flawlessly. We had the best time in Dawki or Nohkalikai. We wandered through Shillong's Police Bazaar and picked some souvenirs. Laitlum Canyons had us dramatically pretending to be in a movie. The root bridge trek absolutely wrecked us, in the greatest way. And Dawki? Our group photo has been our collective profile picture for a month.
Guide Nongrum was the MVP, she managed the entire thing with a smile, somehow keeping everyone together and on time. The Arwah Caves were a spooky, brilliant bonus none of us expected to enjoy that much. The good folks at eSikkim know how to build a trip that works for groups. Already planning for the next one.

I travel to understand places, not just see them. Meghalaya with eSikkim Tourism gave me both. Don Bosco Museum in Shillong is genuinely one of the finest cultural museums I've visited in India. The seven floors of Northeast Indian heritage, art, and history that most travellers rush past. Don't. Shillong Peak gave a sweeping view of the city that contextualised everything beautifully.
The Botanical Garden and Ward's Lake carried a quiet colonial-era elegance worth an unhurried afternoon. Guide Bah Aiborlang Kharkongor was deeply knowledgeable about Khasi traditions, adding layers of meaning to every stop that a guidebook simply cannot. The Sohra waterfalls and the root bridges, layered on top of all this cultural grounding, made every experience feel richer. This one stayed with me long after I got home.
