Why Choose a Sikkim Tour from Kochi
Kochi is one of India’s most cosmopolitan cities, shaped by centuries of trade, colonial history, and a thriving port culture. It is also warm, green, and sea-level flat. Sikkim offers the exact opposite:
- Kochi’s backwaters and beaches are stunning, but Gangtok at 1,650 metres and Pelling with its Kangchenjunga views are a world apart. Literally.
- Kerala’s tropical humidity gives way to cool, dry mountain air the moment you start the climb from Bagdogra toward Gangtok.
- Kochi’s famous St. Francis Church and Mattancherry synagogue speak to centuries of trade. Sikkim’s monasteries like Rumtek and Pemayangtse carry an equally layered Buddhist heritage completely different in character.
- From Kerala’s seafood and appam culture to Sikkim’s thukpa, momos, and chhurpi, the culinary experience alone is memorable.
- Sikkim is one of India’s cleanest, most peaceful states and a very comfortable first Himalayan destination for South Indian travellers.
- Flights from Kochi to Bagdogra connect via Bangalore, Chennai, or Kolkata. Gangtok is 4–5 hours by road from Bagdogra.
How to Reach Sikkim from Kochi?
By Air:
Major airline companies offer connecting flights from Cochin to Bagdogra with one layover stop. Board a flight from Kochi airport (COK) to Bagdogra (IXB). Once you reach Bagdogra, take SNT bus service or cab service to safely reach Gangtok in 4-5 hours. Alternatively you can choose a helicopter ride that will take you to Gangtok in 20 minutes.
By Train:
The closest train station from Sikkim is New Jalpaiguri. To reach here, board a train from Cochin station to NJP junction. There are three weekly trains that run between the locations. Once you reach NJP, take a bus or cab to cover 114.1 kms of distance via NH10.
By Road:
The road distance between Kochi and Sikkim is roughly 3000 kms. Considering such a long distance and money, a road journey is not a viable option. Instead you should consider travelling by train or flight.

Who Is This Sikkim Tour Ideal For?
Kochi travellers tend to be experienced and well-travelled within India, but many have never ventured into the Northeast Himalayas. This tour is a natural fit for them.
Couples from Kochi who want something genuinely different from a Kerala or Goa trip will find Sikkim’s mountain scenery and peaceful pace deeply refreshing. Families with school-age kids will appreciate how well-organised and safe Sikkim is for first-time Himalayan travel.
If you are a Kochi professional who wants a proper digital detox in the mountains, away from sea-level heat and city noise, a 4-night Sikkim trip is one of the most efficient ways to do it.
