About the Trek

The Yuksom Goechala Trek, one of the best high altitude treks in Sikkim, is a befitting trek to witness and enjoy the views of the Mt. Kanchendzonga. Originating from Yuksom, it takes the trekkers to several charming destinations, and finally to the astounding Goechala Pass.

While at times, the trek gets pretty challenging, at other times it appears as easy as any other treks in Sikkim. If you are looking for some fun and excitement along with the adventure and thrill of trekking in Sikkim, it is the perfect call for you! Along with scenic trails, picturesque meadows, narrow passes and a pristine outlook, the Yuksom Goechala trek also offers magnificent views of some of the peaks like Pandim (6691m), Kabur (7338m), Kumbhakarna (7710m), Simvo (6811m), Frey Peak (5830m) and several others

Itinerary

The Yuksom Goechala trek begins with your arrival in Yuksom and takes you for a 6-7 hours trek through the picturesque Rathong Valley. In this part of the trek, you will be hiking through some of the semi-tropical forests and start gaining altitude. By the end of the trek, you will reach a gorgeous Tibetan village called Tshoka. On arrival at the village, get into the campsite or a hut to spend overnight.

On this day, you will the maximum fun, excitement and adventure as you will be trailing through zigzag terrains which are enthralling in themselves. As you trek further through these trails, you will reach Phedang. The best time to trek across Phedang is April to May as during this period the entire region blooms into various colours. Local villagers grazing their yaks and cattles can be spotted here. Trekking around 300 metre from Phedang, you will finally reach the campsite/hut in Dzongri.

After two days of trekking, today, you will be taking a much desired rest in the camp/hut. During the latter part of the day, you can take a small hike to Dzongrila, which is located at a height of 4250 metre and takes around 40 minutes from the Dzongri camp/hut.

Today’s trek will take you through the gorgeous Prek River. Trekking along this high altitude river, you will reach the picturesque and grassy meadow of Thangshing. And after getting into the camping hut in Thangshing, you can witness the awe-inspiring views of Kanchendzonga and Mt. Pandim.

As you get started with the trek of the day, the amazing views of Mt. Pandim will give you company till you reach the Samiti Lake. From beside the lake, you can catch the most wonderful views of the Kanchendzonga and other Himalayan ranges. Trekking beside the lake will also offer you the first views of a heavenly glacier. From here, you will be hiking through areas ringed with prayer flags till you reach Lamune. Overnight stay will be in camps/huts.

The trek for today will begin very early in the morning; by 2.00-3.00a.m. As sunshine makes the snow to melt, the terrains might become slippery and get vulnerable to several mishaps. Also, as the trails from here onwards will be rocky, you have to be extreme careful from here. Trekking ahead, you will finally reach the gorgeous Goechala Pass at a height of 4940 metre. Encircled with colourful flags, offering demanding views of the Kancehndzonga Peak and Talung Glacier, this region is the perfect example of the serenity and beauty of the nature. Overnight stay will be arranged in the camps/huts.

Today morning, you will be retracing your previously trekked routes and find your way back to Tshoka. Arrive in the village of Tshoka and get into the campsite/trekker’s hut to spend overnight.

On the last day of the trek, you will finally trek back to the point, from where you had started this exciting journey and will complete the trek.
