It is quite cold in Sikkim during February but the temperature at the Tsomgo Lake is freezing cold and can even drop down to -10°C. How To Reach Tsomgo Lake

Reaching Tsomgo Lake in Sikkim is easy as it is well connected to Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim. Gangtok also enjoys a great weather in February and the average temperature is around 4°C. You can drive to the Lake from Gangtok and the distance is around 38 km which is like 2-3 hour drive through the Gangtok-Nathu La highway. On the way you will get an opportunity to pass through lovely places steeped in natural beauty.

You can reach Gangtok from any major city of India through air or rail. you can opt for a flight to Bagdogra airport (125 km from Gangtok) in Siliguri, West Bengal, from the major cities of India like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata etc., or take a train to New Jalpaiguri railway station in Siliguri which is 117 km far from Gangtok.

If you are an Indian visitor, you need an inner line permit to visit the Tsomgo Lake.

Foreign nationals need a special permit to visit the Lake.

Treat For Your Taste Buds At Tsomgo Lake

While cherishing the blissful views of the Lake and the snow-capped mountains, feast on hot Maggie, tea and other snacks at the stalls at the Lake. Get ready for some more adventure through Yak ride. If needed you can rent jackets and shoes from the nearby shops.

Important Tips To Consider When You Travel To Tsomgo Lake In February

Don’t forget to carry woollens and sports shoes to keep yourself cozy and comfortable.

It is a high altitude lake due to which the oxygen content is low here. When you come here, rest for some time in order to adjust to the environment. Make sure you don’t exert yourself too much upon your arrival at the Lake as it might lead to dizziness due to low oxygen content.

Consult your physician before coming to Tsomgo Lake. He might prescribe some medicine to avoid mountain sickness.Keep that medicine with you.

Drink lots of water to avoid dehydration.

Avoid alcohol and smoking.

Eat light. Avoid heavy meals.

If you have a breathing problem, carry your oxygen tank.

If you are anaemic, make sure you carry your iron supplement because anaemia lowers the amount of oxygen in your blood and hence it makes you more susceptible to mountain sickness.

Nearby Attraction Of Tsomgo Lake

When you are visiting Tsomgo Lake, you can also visit the nearby attraction Nathula Pass which is truly worth a visit. Its major feature is that it is one of the highest motorable roads in the world, located at 4,310 m above mean sea level. The Pass was once a significant trade route between the silk traders from Sikkim and Tibet.

Important Information

Visitors need permission along with vehicle permission to visit Nathula pass. It is advisable to take permission one day prior to your visit as there is a limitation on the number of vehicles per day.

Only Indian nationals can visit Nathula Pass It is open for 5 days a week including Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and closed for two days- Monday & Tuesday.

The road to Nathula may get blocked due to snowfall in February and in such a case permit is not issued to visitors. You can check it once you reach Gangtok.
