Far in the laps of Himalayas is Sikkim, a state that remains beautiful in every season. There is something about this place that is soothing and refreshing. North-East India is considered to have an unimaginable charismatic beauty and Sikkim proves this to be true. With every season Sikkim shows its visitors a new face but one thing that remains constant is its peace-giving quality. Where summers find their home during the month of June, winters knock in during November. Then comes March which is a mix of both. A little warmth mixed with cool breezes, this month makes it a perfect time to be in Sikkim. And, if you are planning to be here in the very same month then you’ve landed on a right page.

Below is a list of places to visit in Sikkim during March. Read it and thanks us later!

1. Lachung

Located in North Sikkim, Lachung dazzles its visitors with its pristine beauty. This tiny hamlet lying in the laps of Himalayas once served as a trading point between Tibet and Sikkim. Apart from the trade associations, the place is also a melting pot of Tibetan culture. Lachung Monastery stands as evidence for the same. Surrounded by numerous waterfalls, pine forests and apple orchards Lachung is indeed a treat to one’s eyes.

2. Gangtok

The capital and most lively city of Sikkim, Gangtok is situated 5,500 ft above the sea level. A centre of Tibet culture and base for some adventurous treks, Gangtok is the life of Sikkim. The snow-laden paths, appealing mountain peaks, and serene valleys combine to form a perfect collage that allures tourists from around the globe. Sitting in the Eastern Himalayas, Gangtok has an irresistible beauty. Rumtek Monastery, River Teesta, Namchi, Do Drul Chorten Stupa, Flower Exhibition centre, Banjhakri Falls, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, and M.C Marg a few places to visit in Gangtok.

3. Tsomgo Lake

Tsomgo Lake, popularly known as Changu lake is 35 km from Gangtok. The views of the lake with snow-capped mountain peaks in the backdrop are breathtaking. During March, you’ll find it frozen making it look nothing less of stunning. What makes the lake even more special is its changing colours. In the bygone years, the lama would study the lake’s colour to forecast the future. They believed that a darker colour indicates a troublesome time. Protected Area Permits are to be obtained by the people who wish to visit the lake.

4. Nathu La and Baba Harbhajan Temple

Best for the trekking enthusiasts Nathu La finds itself at a height of 14140 feet above the sea level. It was a major passway of Old Silk Route between Tibet and India which was closed in 1968. Today, it forms an extremely beautiful landscape which is mostly covered under the clouds. Here you’ll find the border gates of China and India and to add some fun you can have a yak ride. Also, make sure that you are perfectly healthy before you decide on visiting Nathu La as oxygen levels are low due to a higher altitude.

At a small distance from Nathu La is Baba Harbhajan Temple, a shrine dedicated to a 22-year-old soldier who while escorting mules slipped off the cliff into a fiercely flowing river and drowned. After a few days of been missing, he came into the dreams of fellow sepoy Pritam Singh to inform about his trajectory and the spot where his body was lying. He even expressed his desire for constructing a samadhi in his name. Since then, his colleagues tell that he comes in their dreams to warn them about future troubles.

5. Yumthang, Valley of Flower

As dreamy as it sounds, it looks dreamier when witnessed by your own eyes! March is a perfect month to visit Yumthang when locals celebrate Losar festival and flowers start blooming. Huge meadows with yaks around and most importantly the colourful flowers make this place look not less than a paradise. No matter how much time you spend here, you’ll find it less to absorb the charismatic beauty Yumthang beholds.

6. Gurudongmar Lake

A visit in the month of March would land you on a frozen lake which is also one of the world’s highest lakes. Settled at an altitude of 17,800 ft, Gurudongmar Lake is considered sacred by locals. The snow-fed waters of the lake are one of the sources for Tista. There is a belief in Hindus as well as local Buddhists that the lake grants children to issueless couples. Though unsure of this fact, we can assure you one thing and that is an amazing experience at the Gurudongmar Lake which is protected by the high mountain peaks.

7. Pelling

The most visited town after Gangtok is Pelling which is situated at a distance of 131 km from the latter. Its thick forest cover and varied vegetation make it a place worth visiting. A breath of fresh air, Pelling is one of the most beautiful gifts of nature to Sikkim. When here do visit Khanchendzonga and Changey waterfalls which are the main attractions of Pelling. It is a perfect place for people who are enthusiastic enough to drop the car rides and take long walks instead.

8. Zuluk
