Itinerary

Your 10 days Meghalaya tour begins as soon as you land at Guwahati airport or railway station. Our representative will meet you at the airport or railway station and drive you to Chandigre, your first holiday destination.

Board the private transportation and head out for a five-hour scenic road journey through the thickly forested hills of the Garo Hills. On reaching Chandigre, head straight to the hotel for some relaxation. 

Later you can head out to explore the picturesque village characterised by lush green landscapes and immense natural beauty. Explore the village life and experience the calm away from the hustle and bustle of a city. Interact with locals and gain insights into the rich culture and the unique lifestyle of the Garo tribe. 

Enjoy an overnight stay at Chandigre village.

After having a delicious breakfast at the hotel, get ready for an exciting day with lots of adventure and fun. If you are an adventure-loving person, you are going to have an amazing experience trekking in the UNESCO-recognized Nokrek National Park.

The thick slopes and verdant landscapes of Nokrek National Park make it a perfect destination for trekking. The diverse ecosystems of the park comprising tropical and subtropical forests, grasslands and savannas make it a treasure trove for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. 

It is a 6-hour guided trek inside the biosphere, spread across an area of 47,000 hectares. The trekking route is extremely captivating with dense rainforests and tree canopy, picturesque villages, beautiful waterfalls, rivers and bridges along the way.

This is your perfect opportunity to spot the diverse flora and fauna of the region. The National Park is home to rare Hoolock Gibbon, Asiatic elephants, red panda, and clouded leopards. It also houses a diverse variety of bird species, including the great Indian hornbill and various migratory birds. 

After an exciting day, spend overnight at Chandigre.

Start the day early and have your morning grub at the hotel. Later, complete your check out formalities and prepare for an amazing road trip from Chandigre to Shillong. On the way, you will make pit stops at several places.

Take the scenic Tura – Nongstoin Highway and enjoy the beautiful views on both sides of the road. You will be in awe of the beauty of this region passing through the dense stretches of forests, lush landscapes of the Garo Hills and the highland meadows and pine groves of the West Khasi Hills. 

The gleaming highway between Tura and Shillong is one of the most beautiful in the region. The roadside trees and sprawling hills change their colour in every season.

On the way, you can make pit stops at Nongstoin and Mairang towns to explore the local area and grab something to eat. 

On reaching Shillong, head straight to the hotel and enjoy an overnight stay at Shillong.

Day 4 of your 10 days Meghalaya tour itinerary starts with a delicious breakfast at the hotel in Shillong. It is the capital city of Meghalaya and is known for its beauty, vibrant culture and rich history.

Begin your sightseeing tour in Shillong by visiting Shillong Peak, the highest point in Meghalaya. Catch panoramic views of this mesmerising hill station from the peak and get amazed by its splendour. This place is a hikers and trekkers paradise. 

Your first stop for the day is Elephant Falls, a picturesque waterfall in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. The water from the fall drops over multiple levels, scything through the forested slope, lending it a marvellous sight to watch. The famous waterfall gets its name from the nearby elephant-shaped rock formations. Enjoy a walk in the canyon below and get a stunning picture with the giant waterfall in the backdrop. 

Next head to the Laitlum Canyons. This beautiful natural canyon comprises a succession of steep-sided valleys and gorges built over time by soft rock erosion. This place is known for its stunning views similar to the Scottish Highlands. 

End your day by visiting the very famous Umiam Lake. It is a picturesque blue-toned lake surrounded by beautiful Sylvan Hills.  It is also one of the largest artificial lakes in the state. 

After spending an exciting day in Shillong, head back to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Get ready for another exciting day in Shillong. This is a comparatively relaxed day. Have your breakfast and head out to explore the city a little more.

Visit the Don Bosco Museum and learn about Meghalaya’s rich history and art. The museum highlights social, cultural and economic elements of life in Northeast India, specifically focusing on traditional music, crafts and dance. 

Next, you can explore the Police Bazaar, a vibrant and popular market in Shillong. You will find a diverse range of products here, from traditional handicrafts and clothing to modern electronics and accessories. It has a lively atmosphere, making it a must-visit for tourists.

Spend your evening at the Ward’s Lake (also known as Nan Palok). Enjoy a leisurely stroll around the horseshoe-shaped lake or sit and admire the stunning flowerbeds throwing a myriad of colours. It is a popular picnic spot and is visited by locals as well as tourists. You can enjoy paddle boating at the lake. Next to the Ward’s Lake is the Botanical Garden. It features rare and beautiful orchid collection, diverse flora, and a serene atmosphere, offering a peaceful escape.

After a day full of exploration, head back to your hotel for an overnight stay.

On day 6 of your 10 days Meghalaya tour package, you will be transferring from Shillong to Sohra (commercially known as Cherrapunjee). Have your breakfast at the hotel and check out.

Drive to Mawphlang Sacred Groves, located in Mawphlang village, 25 km from Shillong. It is an ancient forest protected by the Khasi tribe. This lush green sanctuary is known for its rich biodiversity, including rare plants, orchids, and medicinal herbs. Visitors can explore the mystical trails while learning about the deep spiritual and cultural significance of the grove.

Now, head back to the Shillong – Sohra state highway and continue driving towards Sohra. En route, enjoy a stopover at Mawkdok Dympep Valley View Point and Arwah Cave.

Mawkdok Dympep Valley View Point is a captivating vantage point offering a stunning view of the Valley. The steep sloping hills from both sides of the valley make a gorgeous V formation, perfect for clicking pictures. It is up to you whether you want to enjoy the valley view from the vantage point or indulge in an adrenaline-pumping zip-lining adventure. 

Arwah Caves is a natural cave system and a hidden gem in Meghalaya. These spectacular and well-preserved limestone caves are popular for their stalagmites, stalactites and fossil formations. 

Reach Sohra and head straight to the Nohsngithiang Falls (also known as Seven Sisters Falls) to witness a vibrant sunset. The waterfall gets illuminated by the sun, and the vibrant colours of the setting sun on the waterfalls are particularly beautiful. Nohsngithiang Falls is a seven-segmented waterfall located in the East Khasi Hills. 

Later head to the hotel and check in. Overnight stay at Sohra.

Have a scrumptious breakfast at the hotel and prepare to explore in and around Sohra before heading to your next destination – Mawlynnong.

Begin the sightseeing tour in Sohra with the waterfall hopping. Discover the beauty of awe-inspiring falls amidst serene nature’s setting. Firstly, explore Dain Thlen Falls known for its strong cascade surrounded by river-bed flats and natural rock pools. Next, head to explore Wei-Sawdong Falls, known for its charismatic three-tiered fall and panoramic surroundings. You can also choose to explore Nohkalikai Falls, one of the tallest plunge waterfalls in India standing tall at a height of 1115 feet (340 meters).

Take a small detour for an amazing caving experience. Visit Mawsmai Caves, a beautiful limestone cave featuring natural fossil formations formed over years of natural erosion and underground water. It is one of the most popular historical Caves and among the best places to experience in Cherrapunjee.

Continue your drive from Sohra to reach Mawlynnong. Check in at the hotel and catch some rest. Overnight stay at Mawlynnong.

Begin your day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel and get ready to explore Mawlynnong and Dawki.

Mawlynnong is a small lush-green village in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, known for its pristine natural beauty, cleanliness, and distinctive community. And for a more immersive experience, you can interact with locals and learn about their way of living.

A short drive of 35 km from Mawlynnong will take you to Dawki. We promise you one thing – a visit to Dawki will be the best experience of your entire tour. Get amazed to see the crystal-clear water of the Dawki River in West Jaintia Hills. Enjoy boating at the scenic Umngot River, which is known for its super transparent water. You can literally see the riverbed through the water. Apart from boating, you can also enjoy swimming, snorkelling, and fishing in the river. 

In the evening, stay at a campsite in Dawki.

Have a scrumptious breakfast at the campsite and prepare to transfer to your next destination i.e. Shnongpdeng.

Enjoy a scenic road trip from Dawki to Shnongpdeng through lush green valleys, taking in breathtaking views along the way. Keep an eye out for stunning bridges that add to the charm of the journey, offering picture-perfect moments at every turn.

Your first stop would be Krangshuri Falls, which is one hour north of Shnongpdeng. A short hike from the parking lot will take you to this splendid waterfall. It is one of Meghalaya’s most beautiful and picturesque waterfalls surrounded by lush greenery.  

Your next stopover is at Nartiang village, an hour from Krangshuri. At Nartiang village, you will find a vast collection of monoliths in a single area. This place is popularly referred to as the ‘garden of monoliths’. The ancient Nartiang Monoliths are considered to be the tallest structures in Meghalaya and in fact, some claim it to be the largest in the world.

Next to the monoliths stands an ancient Durga temple, steeped in fascinating legends and history. It houses intriguing artefacts, including old cannons and a site once used for human sacrifices in bygone eras. This stop promises to enrich your journey with a deep cultural touch.

End the day by heading to the hotel or campsite at Shnongpdeng.
