This little hamlet is perched in the Himalayas at 3000 meters above sea level. Lachung offers wonderful classic mountain scenery with snow-capped peaks decorating the background. The famous Rhododendron Sanctuary is a riot of colour this time of the year and comes highly recommended. The Jelepla Pass with the stunning Menmecho Lake that flows below it is another wonderful sight you must not miss. Exploring the Yumthang Valley and meeting the end of the road at Zero point are highlights in Sikkim. The usual vibe of this stunning quintessential hamlet is tranquil and awe-inspiring.

May marks the end of summer in Lachung. The weather is moderate, comfortable and it is the right time to go wandering the area. While summer is ending, visiting the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary comes highly recommended. The riot of colours in this valley from over 40 species of the Rhododendron flowers is truly remarkable. Various other species of alpine flowers decorate this enchanting valley during this season. These flowers are in full bloom and they paint the valley in the hues of the rainbow. The Yumthang Valley also houses the Yumthang Hot spring a few miles ahead of the sanctuary. This hot spring is a warm surprise in the cold weather. The spring water is rich in Sulphur and is known to have healing properties. Bathe your self with some healing water to feel cleansed and refreshed.

 

Located near Lachung is the Green Lake, one of the least explored parts of Sikkim. Green Lake is an underappreciated treasure that has magnificent views that will leave you awe-struck. At a stunning altitude of 1437 meters, the Green Lake offers mesmerizing views of gorgeous Kanchenjunga peaks and the dazzling lake. This time of the year, you will be enchanted by the sight of beautiful meadows in a multitude of colours of poppies and rhododendrons amidst soft and cool mountain breeze.

The Bhim Nala waterfall, famous for its appearance in a Bollywood movie starring Amitabh Bachchan offers a wonderful sight. The waterfall flowing through greener and the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas in the background make for a thrilling view that will rejuvenate your weary mind. In its vicinity is the Chunthang Monastery which houses exquisite Buddhist artifacts. The monastery spreads its spiritual air all throughout Lachung.

Visit Sikkim’s highlight- Zero Point in the pleasant and cool weather of May. Visiting the end of civilized roads is an exciting opportunity. A sight of the meeting point of there rivers with the snow-clad mountain peaks lining the background from 15,300 ft above sea level is bound to leave you speechless. Spend a few minutes admiring the stunning panoramic view of Sikkim with the cool breeze brushing your face.

End your Lachung trip on a spiritual note by visiting the Gurudongmar Lake. The great Guru Padmasambhava is said to have dipped his toes in a part of the lake which never freezes. This lake is deemed to be sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists. Apart from the holy vibes, this lake is home to a gorgeous view of the shimmering water against Snow-covered mountain peaks. There is also a sacred stone called Naydo, which is said to have the footprints of Guru Padmasambhava. This can be visited for the stunning scenery and the sacred importance before the summer ends.

Lachung at the end of summer is tranquil and picturesque. Spend the summer in Lachung wearing sweaters and wandering beautiful places that this little town of Sikkim offers.
