During this time of the year the Shingba Rhododendron Valley appears remarkably magnificent. The sanctuary is in Yumthang Valley and is one of the best highlights of Sikkim with a plethora of flowers including Rhododendrons, Primulae and other Alpine flowers. The Rhododendron flowers are in full bloom and they cover the valley in all their grandeur. The sight of the valley at this time of the year is a spectacular riot of colours. At the entrance of Yumthang Valley is the Yumthang Hot Spring. The Sulphur rich water is surprisingly warm and is believed to have healing properties.

At a close distance to Lachung is the Chungthang Monastery. The beautiful and exquisite architecture of this place is a wonderful sight to see. The Monastery also houses a rich collection of rare Buddhist paintings and artifacts. The pious and spiritual vibes from this Monastery cover Lachung in an air of peace and tranquility. Nearby is a sacred stone also called Naydo, which has the footprints of guru Padmasambhava. The Bhim Nala waterfalls, famously known as the Amitabh Bachchan waterfalls, are also in this vicinity. The waterfalls lend a stunning view with the Himalayan snow-capped peaks at the backdrop.

 

No trip to Lachung is complete without reaching the end of the road at Zero Point. This is the point where all civilian roads end and the reason this place gets its name. At this point the three rivers meet and the snow-covered mountains line the background. At an altitude of 15,300 ft above sea level, this place has a view that is out of the world. The outstanding panoramic view of Sikkim from the top of this point is glorious and comes highly recommended. The crisp cool breeze and cold yet pleasant weather will bewitch you.

Another place to visit on your trip to Lachung in April is the Gurudongmar Lake. This lake is considered sacred by the Buddhists and the Hindus. It is believed that Guru Padmasambhava touched a part of this lake and hence it never freezes. Soak in the tranquility and charm of the spectacular sights of this lake.
