Legship is a delightful town ideally located amidst lush greenery in Sikkim. In fact, it is the gateway to West Sikkim. Ideally nestled on the banks of river Rangit, this town is the main crossing point from Gangtok, Pelling, Rabangla, Yuksam, Jorethang, Tashiding and Geyzing. A trip to Legship comes with attractions like sheer natural beauty, trekking trails, and wildlife sanctuaries. This historic town also finds mention in the great epic Mahabharata. Visit Kirateshwar Mahadev Mandir where Arjuna, one of the main characters from the Mahabharata, worshipped Lord Shiva. Located just 4 km from the temple is Phur Cha-chu hot water spring known for its medicinal properties. Another attraction is Kah-do Sang phu or ‘the cave of the occult fairies’ which is considered sacred by the locals. Also visit Rangit Water World, a lake formed by the Rangit dam, to enjoy river rafting, angling, and swimming.

Reach Legship By Air

The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri, West Bengal which is around 118 kilometers from Legship. It is around a 4-hour drive. The airport is well connected to some of the major cities of the country by regular flights. From the airport, you can hire a private taxi to reach Legship.

Legship is located 107 km from Gangtok and the most convenient way to reach Legship is to first come to Gangtok and then from there drive down to Legship. Gangtok is the nearest town of Sikkim from Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal, around 125 km.

The good news is that Sikkim has now got its own airport- Pakyong Airport, which will directly connect it with the major cities of India once it’s fully operational. The airport is located in Pakyong village which is around 35 km from south of Gangtok. It is the first airport of Sikkim located at an altitude of 4,590 ft and is one of the highest altitude airports in India. Once it is operational you can easily reach Gangtok in less time.

Reach Legship By Train

The nearest railway station to Legship is the New Jalpaiguri in Siliguri, West Bengal. It is around 112 kilometers from Legship. Legship is located 107 km from Gangtok and the most convenient way to reach Legship is to first come to Gangtok and then from there drive down to Legship. The railway station is well linked to the major cities of the country like Kolkatta and New Delhi. From the railway station, you can easily get a taxi or cab for Gangtok and then Legship. Taxis are easily available from the railway station and from Gangtok.

Reach Legship By Road

Legship is easily accessible by road from the major cities of India and almost all the places in Sikkim. It is around 15 km from Geyzing and 107 km from Gangtok. The most convenient way to reach Legship is to first come to Gangtok and then from there drive down to Legship. You can hire a private taxi or a shared one to reach there. State-run buses are also available.

Geyzing is well connected with cities like Darjeeling, Siliguri, and Gangtok. Private and shared taxis are easily available. Buses are also available from places like Siliguri, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Pelling, Tashiding, Yuksom etc.
