Thruepang Palace
Located just above the road leading to Trongsa and Trongsa Dzong, the Thruepang Palace appears more like a modest house than to be a royal palace. Built by the second Bhutanese king, Jigme Wangchuk in 1920, this palace served as a royal residence to Queen Ashi Phuntsho Choden. This palace is also the birthplace of King Jigme Wangchuk’s successor or the third king of Bhutan, His Royal Highness Jigme Dorji Wangchuk who was born in 1928 in Thruepang Palace, and also spent most of his childhood days within this palace.
A testimony of the royal lifestyle, this palace later turned into a get-together destination for all the royal functions and social meetings. The heirs of the royal family used to visit it occasionally. In addition to the elegant history of Thruepang Palace, it is also considered as scenic tourist attraction in Bhutan. Built in traditional Bhutanese architecture, the palace courtyard is dotted with traditional cottages for the royal entourages. The interior of Thruepang Palace is adorned with wonderful paintings, iconographies, and artistic works of high value and prominence.
