Gasa Dzong

A 17th century Dzong, the Gasa Dzong or Gasa Tashi Tongmön Dzong in Gasa village is named after the region’s main protecting deity Tashi Thongmon. Once a defending barrack to the region, this fortress is unique than any other fortresses in Bhutan.

Unlike most of the Bhutanese dzongs, Gasa Dzong is built in a circular shape with three watchtowers placed differently at strategic locations. Built by Tenzin Drukdra, the Daong was primarily meant to serve as a bulwark against enemy invasions or attacks from the north. Unfortunately, Gasa Dzong underwent a mishap in 2008.
