How to Reach Bhutan from Kolkata by Air

Kolkata is one of the nearest Indian metropolitan cities to Bhutan that has direct flight connectivity with Bhutan. You can either book a direct or a connecting flight that would fly via Kathmandu (Nepal) to reach Bhutan from Kolkata by air. In case, there are heavy air traffic, and you fail to get a flight from Kolkata, you can first fly to Bagdogra or Guwahati in Assam and take a direct flight to Bhutan from either of them. Both Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines operates within these routes.

Note: Bagdogra and Guwahati are preferred as they are the closest airports to Kolkata and Bhutan as well.

How to Reach Bhutan from Kolkata by Train

Kolkata has great railway connectivity with the rest of the country, and also within the state. If you are thinking about how to reach Bhutan from Kolkata, you can board any of the trains that passes through or travels till Siliguri Junction, New Jalpaiguri Junction, New Alipurduar Junction, Hasimara Station, Bongaigaon Junction, or Guwahati Railway Station. From any of these mentioned railways stations, a quick bus journey or road trip would work wonder for the visitors to complete their journey to reach Bhutan from Kolkata.

From within the limits of West Bengal, you can enter into the Land of Thunder Dragons through Jaigaon-Phuentsholing route. From Bongaigaon and Guwahati (both in Assam), you can select from Gelephu or Samdrup Jhongkar entry points. Gelephu is around 50km (1 hours’ drive) away from Bongaigaon and Samdrup Jhongkar is about 150km (3 hours’ drive) away from Guwahati.

How to Reach Bhutan from Kolkata by Road

Kolkata also has regular buses plying from Esplanade Station that takes visitors to Bhutan. These buses are run by the Royal Bhutanese Government, and takes around 18 hours to reach Bhutan. If not by bus, you can also drive your own vehicle through the Jaigaon-Phuentsholing route and reach Bhutan from Kolkata by road.
