Aja Ney
Mongar is a Bhutanese town known for its cascading waterfalls, evergreen conifer forests, breath-taking cliffs, and captivating gorges. Located within this gorgeous town, is the sacred site of Aja Ney. Known to be one of the few holy sites that is blessed by Guru Padmasambhava, this sacred site at an elevation of around 3,500m is the confluence point of pilgrims from all across Bhutan. Devotees visit this holy site to receive blessings of the Guru and purify their souls.
According to the legends, it was in Aja Ney, where Guru Padmasambhava discovered a rock that has around 100 renditions of that translate to the syllable ‘Aa’(ཨཱ). The site has two primary sites for pilgrimage: Aja and Phunying, and can also be reach from Lhuentse. However, the most popular route to reach Aja Ney is a two days’ trek that originates from a hamlet called Serzhong in Bhutan.
