Yongla Goemba

Perched atop a dagger-like mountain in Bhutan’s Pemagatshel region, Yongla Goemba is a noted religious site in the Last Himalayan Kingdom. It is also famed as one of the most ancient and pious Buddhist shrines in the country.

Unwinding the history of Bhutan, one would find out the significance of Yongla Goemba. It is said that this is the temple that was used as an operation base during the ‘Duar War’ by the then Trongsa Poenlop Jigme Namgyal. During this war, Yongla Goemba helped the Bhutanese soldiers tremendously in raiding the British troops.
