Phuentsholing
Phuentsholing or Phuntsholing in the Southern Bhutan is a border town. Sharing its border with Indian town of Jaigaon, this picturesque Bhutanese town is known for its miraculous natural beauty and rich history. The once a headquarter of the Bank of Bhutan, Phuentsholing is one such town that is equally popular among the Indians; mainly the ones from West Bengal and Assam.
Due to its proximity with the Indian state of West Bengal, visitors can often come across a mix of two different cultures in Phuntsholing town. And since Bhutan’s border with China has been closed, Phuentsholing town is the most commonly used route for trade and commerce in Bhutan. Thus, the town is also called the ‘Gateway to Bhutan’.
For most of the Indian population, Phuntsholing town serves as an excellent and pictorial picnic spot. Come December-January, Indians from West Bengal and Assam throng this gorgeous town to enjoy an eventful day with friends and family.
