About the Trek

Do you wish to trek along the scenic ridges of the Himalayas in Sikkim, witness the sky-touching peaks, and walk through dense and deciduous forests? If yes, then trekking in Sikkim is something you need to get involved with!

The Singalila Range that separates both Sikkim and Darjeeling from Nepal is one of the most demanding trekking destinations in the entire country. Exhilarating terrains, various challenges, narrow and winding mountain passes, picturesque forests and abundance of encounter with the snow-covered Himalayan peaks, this UttareySingalila trek will surely fulfil all your dreams and desires of trekking in Sikkim.

Itinerary

As you arrive in the Yuksam or Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim, you will be driven through the hilly terrains. Drive for around 5-6 hours and you will reach Uttarey, where you will spend the rest of the day and overnight in a camp.

Today will be the first day of your trekking. Ascend through the magnificent rhododendron forests and the pleasant trails to reach Chewabhanjyang where overnight stay will be arranged in a camp.

After the previous day’s trek, today, you will be resting in Chewabhanjyang. The day will be meant to get acclimatised to the high altitude climate of Sikkim.

Get an energising breakfast in the Chewabhanjyang camp as today you will have to complete a steep climb to reach Dhor. The trails that will take you towards Dhor passes through the borders of Nepal and Sikkim. On your way, you will also pass through some of the gorgeous high altitude lake formations. After you arrive in Dhor, overnight stay camps will be arranged.

You will be starting early in the morning and trekking through the colourful rhododendron forest on both sides. Moreover, the spectacular views of the mountains during the entire trek will make your day more exciting.

Follow the same schedule as that of yesterday and start trekking towards the picturesque and heavenly Lam Pokhari Lake. On reaching the lakeside, enjoy the rest of the day in a lakeside camp.

Trek for the day will be an easier one and will take you through high mountain passes, pine and juniper forests. The amazing views of the Kanchendzonga and other stunning peaks of Sikkim can be enjoyed till you reach the campsite in Gomathang.

The trek will be mild till you reach Yangshep, which is located at 3900 meter above the sea level and passes through beautiful rhododendron forests. After Yangshep, the trails will get steeper and requires a bit tough climbing till you reach the Pangding camp, where you will be spending the night.

To reach the campsite in Dzongri, you have to cross a river in Bikbari. A wooden bridge will help you in crossing the river, and on crossing the river, you have to ascend for few hours to reach the overnight stay camp in Dzongri.

Today’s trek will take you towards Thagnshing, which is perched 3930 metre above the sea level. During the trek, you will come across the magnificent Prek River. On reaching the Thangshing campsite located in a beautiful grassy meadow, enjoy the wonderful views of Kanchendzonga and Mt. Pandim.

Starting with the easier and pleasant trails from Thangshing, start trekking through the western ridge of Mt. Pandim to reach Lamune. The Kanchendzonga Peak, Samiti Lake, prayer flags Goech Peak and Kabru Peak (north) are some of the delights of this trek.

As you start with today’s trek, you will be starting with the longest phase of this trek. The entire hike from Lamune to GoechalaPaa / Thangshing will require around 8-9 hours. The terrains will be rocky and can get slippery at times. The wonderful views of the Mt. Kanchendzonga and Talung Glacier on the way will give you company during the trek. On reaching the campsite, take a good rest for the following day.

Today’ trek will take you through picturesque forests of juniper and rhododendrons. The destination for the day will be a beautiful Tibetan village called Tshoka. As you approach towards the village, you can witness numerous tea stalls set by the locals. Arriving the village, you will be getting in into a dedicated camp or a lodge for the overnight stay.

Today’s trek from Tshoka to Yuksam will be the last phase of this trek. The trek gets over within the 5-6 hours trek and your arrival in Yuksam.
