Raft: It is an inflatable and sturdy rubber boat that can withstand immense amount of pressure, turbulence and can easily surpass the raffling rapids. While the capacity of the raft depends entirely on its size, the fun and adventure one can have on it depends entirely on the grade of the rapids and the navigating skills of the rafters.

  • Grade I: Easy to navigate with smaller waves and are suitable for beginners.

Instructions and Guidelines for Rafting in Sikkim:

  • Carrying a valid Passport is mandatory for the foreign nationals to cross the Teesta Bridge
  • Participants suffering from major ailments like asthma, heart problems, epilepsy are strictly not allowed for rafting; expecting mothers are also strictly not allowed.
  • The minimum age limit for rafting in Sikkim is 14 years; at certain places the limit might drop down to 10 years. Please check with the authority about the same.
  • Participants under the influence of alcohol or any other intoxicants are not allowed for rafting in Sikkim.
  • Knowing swimming is better; non-swimmers can also participate in rafting. However, non-swimmers are not allowed to all the rapids in Sikkim.

Day 02 Drive from Gangtok to Pelling / Pemayangtse

Day Schedule: Today morning, start early from Gangtok and take a drive to the gorgeous town of Pelling. Day 03 Rest Day in Pelling / Pemayangtse

Day 04 Hike from Pelling to Khechupelri

Day Schedule: Today, you will be taking a hike from Pelling to the Khechupelri region of Sikkim; on the way, you will pass through the gorgeous Rimbi Village. Day 05 Khechupelri

Day 06 Hike from Khechupelri to Yuksom

Yuksom is the preferred base for almost all the treks to Khanchendzonga and was once the capital of Sikkim. Day 07 Yuksom

Day 08 Hike from Yuksom to Tsong

Sikkim

1. Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary :

Located in the lap of the gorgeous Singalila Range of Western Sikkim, the Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary is a destination, where nature flourishes at its best. The verdant outlook and the untouched ambience of this sanctuary serves as a home to several species of birds.

To name a few, there are Dark-breasted Rosefinch, Parrotbills, Common Rosefinches, White-Browed Rosefinch, Kalij Pheasants, White Browed Shortwings, Lesser Browed Shortwings, Satyr Tragopan, Beautiful Fire-capped Tit and others.

2. Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary :

Located in the South Sikkim district in the state, this scenic sanctuary is around 65km from Gangtok and is one of the ideal destinations for bird and butterfly watching in Sikkim. Spreading around 35 square kilometre, this wildlife protected area is known for its rich and diverse flora and avifauna species.

While the fascinating height of the Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary; around 17,00m, adds to its opulent beauty, the lower vicinity of the picturesque Rangit River valley attracts several species of birds and butterflies to this sanctuary. On a whole, it serves as the home to 200 different species of local and migratory birds.

Among all these species, the most Satyr Tragopan; one of the rare and endangered Pheasant species of Eastern Himalayas, is the major attraction. Adding more, there are other exotic and rare species like Fire-tailed Myzornis, Streaked Spiderhunter, Puff-throated Babbler and Great Sultan Tit.

Other commonly found species include Grey Treepie, Black Bulbul, Green Magpie, Farmhouse are the Great Himalayan Barbet, Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon and several others. Along with these exotic birds and a fascinating range of butterflies, one can also spot Red Panda; also known as the ‘Firefox’ or the state animal of Sikkim, in the Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary.

3. Yuksom, Khecheopalri and Pelling :

The captivating beauty and appeal of Yuksom, Khecheopalri and Pelling makes them three of the must to visit places in Sikkim. Situated at a height of 2,750m above the sea level, Lachen (locally known as the ‘Big Paa’) is one of the most beautiful town in Sikkim. The gateway to the Chopta Valley and the scenic Gurudongmar Lake, this Sikkimese town is known for its pictorial beauty and rustic cultures. On the other hand, Thangu and Gurudongmar Lake are two of the closest destinations to Lachen; the latter being located at an astounding height of 17,800ft.

5. Fambonglho Wildlife Sanctuary:

Day 01 Drive from Bagdogra Airport / New Jalpaiguir (NJP) to Jaldapara

Day 02 Jaldapara National Park

Day Schedule: Completing your breakfast in the hotel, drive to the Jaldapara National Park, where you will be spending the rest of the day. Spot some of the rare, exotic and endangered species, and by evening, drive back to the hotel for your overnight stay.

Day 03 Safari, Drive from Jaldapara to Siliguri

Day 02 Biking from Gangtok – Ranka – Martam (29 km)

Day Schedule: Day Schedule: On the first day of your exhilarating mountain biking trail, you will be riding down the slopes from Gangtok and continue to Ranka. Located around 14km from Gangtok, Ranka is one of the least explored or visited places in Sikkim. Here onwards, you will be biking uphill through the pious Rumtek Monastery and reach Martam; overnight stay will be arranged in a local hotel in Martam.

Day 03 Biking from Martam to Sirwani (30 km)

Day Schedule: Starting from Martam, you will be completing a trail of 30km today. The cycling route for the day will take you through the scenic terraced paddy fields of the region and continue downhill to reach Sirwani, a sleepy settlement in the eastern parts of Sikkim. Arriving in Sirwani, overnight camps will be pitched alongside the gurgling Teesta River.

Day 04 Biking from Sirwani to Temi (27 km)

Day 06 Trek from Ravangla to Maenam Peak (14 km)

The trek will take you through dense and scenic patches of oak, hemlock and rhododendrons. Depending on your fitness and enthusiasm, this 14km trek usually takes around 4-6 hours (each way). Day 08 Biking from Borong to Tashiding (39 km)

Day Schedule:After the last two days of trekking, get back to your bikes today, and ride from Borong to Tashiding, a tiny village near Pelling. The ride will first take you to Ralang, where you can visit a sacred monastery and then ride uphill to Ravangla. Here onwards, the trail will move downhill and take you through the slopes of Rangeet Valley. After crossing these scenic valley, the trail once again will continue uphill and will finally take you to Tashiding; overnight stay will be in a hotel.

Day 09 Biking from Tashiding to Yuksom (32 km)

Day Schedule:Today’s mountain biking will be through gradual trails and will also pass across the aromatic cardamom plantations on the way; during the ride, you can also enjoy enchanting views all around. After riding for around 32km during the day, you will finally reach Yuksom, the base of several Khanchendzonga treks in Sikkim; overnight stay will be in a hotel.

Day 10 Biking from Yuksom to Khechupelri Lake (25 km)

Day Schedule:During the first one hour of today’s bike ride, you will shed off some altitude and pass through several settlements of the Lepcha Community of Sikkim. Day 03 Drive from Gangtok to Ravangla (2,100 m) (via Temi Tea Garden) (4-5 Hours)

Day Schedule: On the third day of this low altitude trek in Sikkim, you will be taking a step forward towards the origin trekking point. On this day, you will be driven to Ravangla through the gorgeous Temi Tea Gardens. On your way, you can also catch the amazing views of the sky-touching mountain peaks, the winding roads and the evergreen beauty of Sikkim. Arriving in Ravangla, you will be checked in either in a local homestay or a hotel for the overnight.

Day 04 Trek from Ravangla to Tashiding (1,400 m) (5-6 Hours)

Day Schedule: On this very morning, begin with a 5-6 hours trek from Ravangla and hike towards the picturesque lands of Tashding. While on the trek, you will be descending downward and after attaining a height of 1,400 m, you will finally reach Tashding; overnight stay will be in a local homestay, campsite or hotel.

Day 05 Drive from Tashding to Sinon Monastery (10 km/ 1 Hour); Trek from Sinon Monastery to Hongri Monastery (2,100 m) (4-5 Hours)

Day Schedule: The day will be divided into two different phases; the first being a drive to the Sinon Monastery and the second will be an exhilarating trek to the Hongri Monastery. After breakfast in Tashding, take a drive for around 10 km to reach the beautiful Sinon Monastery and explore its holiness. After you are done with the exploration, start trekking from Sinon Monastery for around 4-5 hours to reach the Hongri Monastery. As you reach the latter, discover the peace the serenity that exists around the monastery and finally retire for the day in a nearby camp or a local homestay.

Day 06 Trek from Hongri Monastery to Yuksom (1,875 m) (4-5 Hours)

Day Schedule: With your today’s trek from the Hongri Monastery, you will arrive in Yuksom, which is one of the most popular hub for most of the treks in Sikkim. With your arrival in Yuksom, you can settle down in a local homestay, camp or a hotel.

Day 07 Trek from Yuksom to Khechuperi (2,000 m) (4-5 Hours)

Day Schedule: The trek for the day will offer you amazing views of the alluring mountain peaks of Sikkim and will take you to the much awaited Khechupuri. During the trek, you will be gaining some height, visit the Khechuperi Lake and will be staying in a homestay or a campsite or in a hotel.

Day 08 Drive from Khechuperi to Pelling (2,200 m) (2 Hours)

Day Schedule:After exploring the magical beauty of Khechuperi and its natural vistas, you will be driven to Pelling. An overall drive of 2 hours, the journey will take you through some of the most sought after sites and places in Sikkim; overnight stay will be in a hotel or local homestay.

Day 09 Drive from Pelling to Airport / Railway Station

Day Schedule:Today will be last day of this wonderful low altitude trek in Sikkim! During the morning hours of the day, you will be dropped at the airport or the railway station, from where you can move towards your onward destination.

Long Itinerary

Day 01 Drive from Bagdogra Airport to Pelling (2,200 m) (5-6 hours)

Day Schedule: After you arrive at the Bagdogra Airport, you will be received by your expert guides and driven to Pelling. Throughout this long drive, you can enjoy the amazing and picturesque views of Sikkim and feast your eyes on its various splendours. Arriving in Pelling, check in into a local homestay and enjoy Sikkimese hospitality for the day.

Day 02 Rest Day in Pelling (Trek: 4-5 hours)

Day Schedule: The day will give you a quick and brief insight of Sikkim’s rich and traditional beliefs! Begin the day with a delicious breakfast at the homestay and make yourself acclimatised with the climate. Post this, embark on a delightful hike around Pelling for around 4-5 hours. While hiking, you will be visiting some of the sacred monasteries in and around Pelling. To name a few, you will be visiting Pemayangtshe and Sangacholin Monasteries along with the Rabdentshe Palace Ruins. Completing this hike, trek back to the homestay for an overnight stay.

Day 03 Trek from Pelling to Darap Village (1,600 m) (4-5 hours)

Day Schedule: The trek will begin today and will take you towards one of the most gorgeous village in Sikkim – Darap Village, which is the home to several indigenous tribes and different cultures. After arriving in the village, walk around and explore its gorgeousness before you retire for the day in a local homestay.

Day 04 Trek from Darap Village to Khechupelri Lake (2,100 m) (5-6 hours)

Day Schedule: With today’s trek from Darap Village, you will be gaining some more height and reach another quiet and sleepy village called Khechupelri. Home to the mystique Khechupelri Lake, this village is considered as a sacred destination among the Sikkimese. People usually visit the Khechupelri Lake to make wishes; legends has it that the lake fulfils wishes made by the devotees.

Day 05 Rest Day & Khechupelri Exploration (Trek: 5-6 hours)

Day Schedule:The day will be spent on total leisure; however, by afternoon, you can take a short trek to the spiritual caves in Khechupelri and discover the sanctity of the region. By the latter part of the day, you can also visit the Khechupelri View Point and catch wonderful views of the vicinity.

Day 06 Trek from Khechupelri to Yuksom (1,875 m) (4-5 hours)

Day Schedule: Starting from Khechupelri, you will be descending downwards and will lose some height today on your way to Yuksom. Upon completion of this exhilarating trek and your arrival in Yuksom, relax and rejuvenate for a while before you visit the quaint villages of the Lepcha Community. Known as the indigenous people of Sikkim, the Lepcha people are also found in Bhutan, Tibet, Darjeeling and some parts of Nepal; overnight stay will be in a local homestay.

Day 07 Rest Day in Yuksom

Day Schedule: In the morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast in the homestay and get started with a short local sightseeing tour of Yuksom. During the early part of the day, visit the sacred Dubdi Monastery, Coronation Throne and the wonderful Karthok Lake. During evening, take time to visit and explore some of the nearby villages and discover the many grandeurs and diverse heritage of these villages.

Day 08 Trek from Yuksom to Hongri Village (2,100 m) (3-4 hours)

Day Schedule:Gaining some height today, you will be trekking to the Hongri settlements. The trek will be a short and pleasant one, and will take you through dense and verdant forests, scenic trails, amazing terrains and mot more. Arriving in the village, take some rest in a local homestay and visit the Hongri and Simon Monasteries that are hidden away from the human settlements. While in this villages, you will be once again, witness the life and cultures of the Indigenous Lepcha tribe; overnight will be in a homestay.

Day 09 Trek from Hongri to Labdang (1,900 m) (5-6 hours)

Day Schedule:Today’s downhill trek will take you to Labdang, the indigenous home of the Gurung ethnic groups of Sikkim. The trek will be a bit long and will offer an astounding opportunity to get closer to the countryside of Sikkim and the rustic lifestyles of the locals.

Day 10 Labdang to Tashiding (1,400 m) (Trek: 4-5 hours)

Day Schedule:Along with the morning, start trekking from Labdang and hike towards a gorgeous hilltop village called Tashiding. Known to be one of the most beautiful villages in Sikkim, Tashiding is also an important pilgrimage centre. Devotees from different corners of the world usually visits the Tashiding Monastery and seek the blessings of the Gods in order to cleanse their souls; spend the night in a local homestay or in a camp

Day 11 Drive from Tashiding to Bagdogra Airport/NJP Railway Station

Day Schedule:On this very last day of the Sikkim Village to Village trek, you will be dropped either at the Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station. From here, you will be free to travel to your onward or next destination.
